Tattoo Removal — or Why you should pick a good tattoo artist

Filed under: Tattoos, Laser Tattoo Removal — AJ @ 3:20 pm

>Here is an article on patient info which details tattoo removal. Laser tattoo removal isn’t the only way to remove a tattoo. There are older, a much more ugly techniques such as Excision, Dermabrasion, and Salabrasion. Trust me, laser is the best option.

Some things to thing about before getting a tattoo

Filed under: Tattoos — AJ @ 3:18 pm

Here is a good article in the Coloradoan about getting a tattoo. I tend to agree with them.

Avoid names, especially of the romantic variety. Tattoo artists and doctors are constantly covering them up or lasering them off. If you insist on a name, choose one you aren’t likely to regret, like “Mom,” Skibo suggested.

Man wins $150k from employeers over religious tattoos

Filed under: Tattoos, Religious Tattoos — AJ @ 8:29 am

This one is from Business and Legal Reports.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a religious-discrimination lawsuit alleging the company refused to offer an accommodation to an employee who had religious inscriptions in the form of tattoos on his wrists.

The employee was a member of an ancient Egyptian religion know as the Kemetic Orthodox Faith. He had Kemetic tattoos on his hands & he was required not to hide him. His employer said otherwise and in the process violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

To learn more about the Kemetic Orthadoxy visit kemet.org. Interestingly we could not find anything about tattoos at this site.

If you are interested in your legal rights concerning tattoos and the workplace I recommend that you read this page at gcglaw: Tattoos & Body Piercing: Avoiding Employment Discrimination Claims.

A few notable points: Workplace requirements for tattoos and body piercing can not be different for males and females. If you are a member of the KKK you probably won’t get away with claiming religious descrimination.

Nerd rants about tattoos

Filed under: Tattoos — AJ @ 8:16 am

Here is another negative article about tattoos, actually an editorial. In this amusing rant the guy starts off about how he enjoys science fiction. He claims it is a sign of a declining culture. As with most tattoo-haters this guy is just a dad who doesn’t want his daughter to get a tattoo. Read his full opinion here.

Here is an article from the Independent, a New Jersey newspaper. The article points to a study which shows that “women with large visible tattoos are more likely to be perceived as unattractive, dishonest and less intelligent than their non-tattooed peers.”

The study was done at a community college.

Are tattoos a health risk?

Filed under: Tattoos — AJ @ 6:32 pm

Here is an interesting article from medpage today. The article goes so far as to ask if tattoos are a dangerous fad.

“Dr. Haley speaks in almost apocalyptic terms of a tidal wave of HCV that is poised to swamp the nation, an epidemic that is “going to dwarf” HIV/AIDS in terms of morbidity and mortality.”

The Center For Disease Control says otherwise.
