As Army loosens tattoo restrictions, Navy tightens
Although the Army has recently loosened tattoo restrictions in order to help boost recruiting, the navy has headed in the opposite direction.
Times have changed, and the Navy is no longer on board with big body art. A few years ago it put new restrictions on the location, number, type, size and statement that sailors and enlistees may make with their tattoos.
- Army policy change now allows neck tattoos
- Coast Gaurd Tightens Tattoo Policy
- Employer Dress Codes changing for tattoos and piercing
- US Navy releases new requirements for tattoos and body mods
- Chinese Army says no to Tattoos

what happened to accepting people for who they are, if someone has a huge scar or disfigurement of appearence it makes up they are and if they choose to get an appearence altering statement such as a tattoo or piercing its merely freedom of expression.

I think that these men and woman that fight for our freedom should not be judged for any body art what so ever, when some will pay the ultimate price and never see there home again….SEMPER FI!!!!!

i go against this i believe we should be able express ourselves through body art i personally get if because it represents places i have been and thing i have been through and seen i know the navy is tryin to make it a better navy but tattooed people are just like everyone else and if the navy opens its eyes it will see that some of the best people might be the ones tattooed

People are who they are and noone but God has a right to judge anyone, Who the hell said we are supposed to be the same? Why do people expect others to be more like them…? Viva La Differance!!!!

As a Private in the Army Having had to go through some shit for my entry I feel as though we should not have to cover our tattoos as long as they aren’t tasteless in style.

I honestly have seen so many people in the military done such great things, as savings others lives and protecting our country. We should not be judged on what we wear on our bodies. We should be able to express ourselves as we dont get tattoos to disgrace anything. Lots of peoples get tattoos with great meanings behind them. With or without a tattoo, we can still work and do the great things that we do. My master chief has a tattoo of his ship, and i have a tattoo of my wifes on it. We can still work and it doesn’t make us any less of a human being as the next person. We give away our lives, we give away our freedoms. Being in the military is one of the hardest job in the world. I have miss my chids birth and first birthday. I am on the verge of a divorce and i still have to go to work the next day to protect my country. We loose so much by being in this job that we chose to do, why cant you let us be who we want to be?

Myself being in the Navy, I don’t see what the big fuss it about. Does a tattoo get in the way of what I do for my country? Does it allow me to perform my job any less? I had 2 tattoos when I joined. I now have 14, and I have a perfect military record. Am I any less of a sailor because of them? I say let God judge me, and let me do my job without anyone bitching. I feel we are judged on our bad qualities and not on our job performance. Why does a tattoo make me less of a person?
