Canada prisons get safe tattoos

Filed under: Tattoos, Tattoos and the Law — AJ @ 10:30 am

CTV is reporting that Canadian prisoners will now be able to get safe tattoos in select prisons. This is good news, considering that used ink and needles are believed to be largely responsible for the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C in prisons.

…under a new $700,000 program that is now available in six of Canada’s jails, prisoners are being provided with safe, hygienic tattoos in a clean environment with new needles and ink, available for $5 for a two-hour session.

What a waste of money! As if money is spent on safe tattooing for convicts (key word convicts) when there are starving children.

I did 3 years and I seen some really sweet designs,I never got any. it was so unsafe and not sterile, I seen a few people with staff infection. the prison systems in america should follow suit. they should offer apprenticeships 2 those who show potential, they teach welding, carpentry, ect. I’m sure there is a professional in each states system. every convict wants tattoos. it’s good for everyone. the prisons wouldn’t have to spend money on medical care on the ones who get infections or worse, the apprentice will learn to make an honest living, and guys will get safe, quality work.

Empire School of Body Art in Beaverton, Oregon is currently training a student that is going to move to Canada to train inmates how to tattoo safely. It will allow her to get citizenship faster and our US government is paying all of her fees to make this happen through our school and the Canadian government through a rehabilitation program in the State of Oregon. THATS A SWEET DEAL!
