Illinois governor says no ink until 21

Filed under: Tattoos and the Law — AJ @ 8:47 am

Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich recently vetoed a bill which would have dropped Illinois’ legal tattoo age from 21 down to 18.

What did the governor have to say about this?

“As a parent, I don’t want my daughters to rush to get tattoos on their 18th birthdays. At that age, most kids are still in high school and don’t have the judgment or perspective to decide on something as permanent as tattooing your skin,” said Gov. Blagojevich. “Teenagers may not realize getting a tattoo is a decision they’ll live with, and potentially regret, for the rest of their lives. That’s why I refuse to support legislation that allows teenager to get tattoos.”

Interesting, what about all the people between the ages of 18 and 20 who voted for Governor Blagojevich? Perhaps the governor would like to raise the voting age as well. After all, the decisions governors make have a lasting impact on their states educational and economic future. Are 18 year olds really ready to make those kind of decisions?

I am a proud supporter of tattoos who really would have loved to get a tattoo at 18 but since the govner of this great state fucked up and didnt sign the bill he lost at least 10 votes that I know of and will not get those votes back in the future

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE TATTOO BILL!!!!!!!!

    To Gov. Blagojevich:
In response to the your opinion on the tattoo bill:
    1) If you were a good father that your children respected and trusted then you shouldn’t have to worry about them mindlessly running off and getting tattooed without your permission.
    2) As far as an 18 - 20 yr. old lacking the judgement or perspective to get a tattoo, isn’t it ironic that these same 18-20 yr. olds DO have the proper perspective and judgement to join the military and serve their country AND vote a piece of work like you INTO OFFICE!!!

not many people where i live are fallowing this, many teenagers are rebellion. im my opinion i think its should be the piering age that goes up not the tattoo age. i have planed on getting a tattoo since i was 16 years old and now that i have turned 18 im still plan on getting mine done. from my point of view as a teenager i think many teens are gonna rebel against this so instead of having a bunch of teens rebbelling getting a tattoo at the age of 18 i think you should lower the age back down to 18 so they dont rebel.
one way or the other 18 year olds are still gonna be getting tattoos no matter what the age requirment is.
