New law could mean jail time for underage tattoos
A new law could result in harsher punishment of those who tattoo minors without parent’s consent. Legitimate tattoo shops aren’t very concerned, and the law would likely only effect amateur artists who aren’t following the law anyways.
A House committee unanimously approved Ure’s bill Tuesday that increases the criminal penalty for tattoo artists who lay ink to skin without the approval of the child’s parents. Under current law, underaged tattooing is a class C misdemeanor punishable by three months in jail and a $750 fine. Ure wants to bump it to a class B misdemeanor, which would increase the penalty to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

thers always a grey area with this age thing im not denying i was only 17 when i got my first, this was with parental consent and the artist was a family friend, but rules should be even clearer i mean who is to say that some person couldnt just find a stranger to pretend to be a parent. this could leave a great artist in jail for all the wrong reasons.

I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A LAW BECAUSE 2 OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE STUPID BECAUSE THEY KNOW A GUY WHO HAS A TATTOO GUN AND SOME INK AND THEY SAY HE IS GOOD BUT HE USES THE SAME NEEDLES AND EVERY THING OVER AND OVER TELL ME WHY ON EVERY TATTOO 1 OF MY FRIENDS HAS IS MESSED UP BUT SHE DONT CARE SHE IS 16 AND HAS 5 TATTOOS THATS NOT COOL THEY WAKE UP ONE DAY AND SAY IM GONNA GET A TATTOO AND THEY GET IT THEY DONT THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT OR ANYTHING BUT THEY THINK IT IS COOL .. THATS WHY IM GONNA WAIT A YEAR AND THEN GO GET 1 DONE RIGHT ! AND THEY SHOULD KEEP THE LAW 2 WHERE NO ONE UNDER 18 CAN GET A TATTOO UNLESS THE PARENT CAN SHOW PROOF THAT ITS THERE KID !! IT IS SO HARD WHERE I LIVE 2 EVEN FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL DO IT WITH A PARENT THERE … SO THAT SUCKS LOL

I think it is a good ideal I was tattooing a girl one time that had a fake i.d. and almost landed my but butt in jail so it is a good ideal and watchout for fake i.d.s
