Ultraviolet tattoos

The Post Star has a good article on UV tattoos - “They like that they can go ahead and get a dragon done on their arm and have the UV ink put into the eyes or into the flames from the mouth,” Scherbarth said. “When you put them under the light, they almost look neon. They’re very brilliant.”

If you are thinking about getting an ultraviolet tattoo check out this thread at TattooArtists.com. Artists there recommend using Crazy Chameleon ink, which is FDA approved; people have been known to have adverse reactions to other brands of ink.

Chinese Tattoo Association seeks to move tattoo image away from criminal stereotype

The China Daily has an article about tattooing in China. Although tattoos have played an important cultural role in China for over 1,000 years, recently, in the 1950s, they began to become associated with crime.

Today groups like the China Association of Tattoo Artists are seeking to reshape that image by improving tattoo safety and guaranteeing artist quality.

Even if body art/tattoos/branding/mutilation occurred prior to the Navy’s original guidance released in January 2003, commanders still have the option to recommend separation if medical authorities determine removal is not feasible.

Chinese Army says no to Tattoos

From IBN - “Tattoos will tarnish the army’s image, even the scars of removed tattoos,” said Li Chunming, a military health official with PLA’s logistics headquarters. Li said only tattoos following the traditions of ethnic minorities will be allowed and only if the figures are not too prominent.

As Army loosens tattoo restrictions, Navy tightens

Although the Army has recently loosened tattoo restrictions in order to help boost recruiting, the navy has headed in the opposite direction.

Times have changed, and the Navy is no longer on board with big body art. A few years ago it put new restrictions on the location, number, type, size and statement that sailors and enlistees may make with their tattoos.

Nipple piercing may have killed girl

From the Canadian Press“A 17-year-old Newfoundland girl is believed to have died from toxic shock syndrome - and the infection that killed her may have resulted from a nipple piercing, the province’s chief medical examiner says.. Avis said her death might be “an extreme example” of what can occur when people have lips, tongues, eyebrows, genitals and other body parts punctured in the name of fashion.”
